Living the Dream: Top Things to Do in Cabarete, Dominican Republic

So, you have packed up your life and relocated to Casa Linda in the Dominican Republic. Now what? It’s time to discover everything the closest central city, Cabarete, has to offer! Whether you are looking for an active, adventurous lifestyle or a calm, tranquilo lifestyle, the Dominican Republic is the perfect place.

Keep reading to learn Casa Linda’s top tips for things to do in the Dominican Republic.

Activities for the Active & Adventurous

The Dominican Republic is ideal for an active person who loves running, swimming, or other outdoor activities. Many Casa Linda’s residents start their mornings by jogging around the community or along the highway to the nearest beach. Morning runs are ideal not only for safety reasons but also because of the refreshingly cool morning breeze before the sun peaks.

Water sports, like paddle boarding and kite surfing, are very popular amongst the locals and expat residents in the Casa Linda community. We are blessed to have such exquisite beaches and consistent weather that allow us to incorporate the island’s natural beauty into our daily routines.

Activities for the Leisure Seeker

As relaxing as yoga or long walks around the community can be, they aren’t everyone’s idea of a perfect vacation. Cabarete has so much to offer for everyone, from retirees to young families! Island life is all about eating good food, socializing with your neighbours, and having a great time.

Whether your idea of a good time is listening to live music at a club or performing karaoke with your friends, you will find the perfect place in Cabarete. If music and dancing appeal to you, try to enroll in dance lessons with your partner and learn the merengue, salsa, bachata, and Latin groove!

A Foodies’ Paradise

Of course, if you are more of a foodie, Cabarete has delicious restaurants— you genuinely cannot go wrong with anyrestaurant on the island, and they are all quite affordable. You can have a full meal for $10 USD at most low to mid-range restaurants. A high-end restaurant is slightly more expensive but only costs $30-40 USD.

We have a restaurant called Castaways Clubhouse that is centrally located in the Casa Linda community, where you can enjoy a delicious meal for around $10-15, depending on what you drink! Castaways is at the heart of Casa Linda.

Casa Linda’s Community Activities

At Casa Linda, we have a live show every Wednesday where performers come with guitars and play for a few hours. Since most of Casa’s community members are retirees, the musicians have a robust repertoire of hits from the 70s and 80s, making for a fantastic evening of singing and dancing together.

The holidays like Christmas and New Year’s Eve are big deals at Casa Linda. Our team loves throwing these parties as a show of appreciation for our owners, and Casa community members from all over the world fly in to celebrate with us. If one thing can be said about Casa Linda, we know how to have a great time full of laughter and merriment.

Diving in Sosúa Bay

Experience the crystal clear waters, thriving coral reefs and abundant marine life in Bahía de Sosúa (Sosúa Bay). Located only a thirty-minute drive from the Casa Linda community, Sosúa Bay is well-known to be one of the best diving spots in the Dominican.

The healthy coral reefs lining Sosúa beach are thriving and teeming with schools of tropical fish. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a sea turtle! If diving isn’t your thing, don’t worry. The beach is exquisite, and one of the best places to watch the sunset on the north coast!

Sunbathe at Playa Alicia

One of the Dominican Republic’s best beaches is less than 15 minutes away from Casa Linda. Playa Alicia is far less crowded than Sosúa Beach, as it’s further away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. If crowds aren’t your thing, Playa Alicia is the best beach for you.

If you’re looking for things to do in the Dominican Republic, you will never go wrong with visiting one of the 200+ beaches hidden around the Dominican. Playa Alicia is a natural paradise with golden sand, palm trees, distant mountain views, and calm waters where you can swim leisurely.

Surfing at Playa Encuentro

Hands down, the best surfing found on the island is at Playa Encuentro, which is only a 15-minute drive east of Casa Linda! If you have ever been interested in learning how to surf and shred the waves, Playa Encuentro is the perfect place to learn.

Just outside of Cabarete, this is the surfing spot for locals and tourists alike. The reef has five different breaks, making it the ideal location for beginners, intermediates and expert surfers. Whether you’re learning to surf or have years of experience, Playa Encuentro will serve you the waves of your dreams!

Hiking in Cordillera Septentrional

Have you ever experienced the sights, sounds and smells of the rainforest? Unless you’ve travelled through South America, you likely have never seen a rainforest. Well, that’s all about to change in the Dominican Republic; the DR is home to the most northern rainforest in the world!

Hiking the Cordillera Septentrional mountain range will introduce you to sights we guarantee you’ve never seen. We recommend leaving your villa early in the morning, as it’s a two-hour drive inland from Casa Linda to the Cordillera Septentrional mountain range. This mountain range is unlike any you’re familiar with in North America.

Ask Casa Linda’s dedicated Community Events Coordinator to recommend the best hiking trails!
