Deciding to retire in the Dominican Republic is a big deal, especially if you’ve never lived outside your home country! At Casa Linda, we do our best to make this life transition as simple as possible.
Keep reading to learn our top 3 tips for newcomers decorating their Dominican Republic villas.
1) Pack It Up & Ship It Over
Just because you’re moving to a new country does not mean you have to leave your furniture and belongings behind! Suppose you are transitioning your permanent residence from North America to the Dominican Republic. In that case, you can easily arrange to ship a cargo of your belongings to Casa Linda. The owner liaison team will ensure your cargo is safely deposited in your new villa and ready to be unpacked.
After all, the easiest way to feel at home in a new country is to bring your home with you! This is an excellent option for owners selling their homes and permanently moving to the Dominican. Furniture is easy to replace and purchase on the island, but personal mementos from your life can’t be replaced or replicated.
If you have something that would make you feel more comfortable and at home, we encourage you to pack it and ship it to Casa Linda before your intended arrival date.
2) Buy From Local Artisans
If shipping all your belongings to another country sounds like a headache, or you’ll only be living part-time at Casa Linda, sourcing your furnishings from local artisans is the way to go! Not only will you be supporting the local community, but you will also be saving a ton of money on shipping costs.
Additionally, when shopping locally, you can guarantee that the furniture is appropriately suited for the hot and humid weather. From bed frames to dining tables, you can find everything you need and more in the Dominican Republic. While there are big box furniture stores on the island like Ikea, you’re better off buying furniture locally because the import tax will be steep.
3) Villa Renovations
Adding customizations and renovations to the pre-existing floor plan is the best and easiest way to make your Dominican Republic villa feel like home. At Casa Linda, all of our villas are made to order. We have 15 floor plans; you can change anything in the original design.
The only limit to customizing your villa is your imagination (and budget)! If you’re interested in a larger infinity pool and a spacious rooftop terrace, that can be arranged. Maybe you’d like a yard with a prominent water feature like a pond or fountain and a living plant wall for added greenery. Perhaps your pets are coming to the Dominican with you, and you need to add a fence around the property!
