Discover Sosua’s Culture at its Fantastic Tourist Sites

things to do in the dominican republic
Reading Time: 2 minutes

You’re interested in Sosua real estate, but you want to know more about the town. Casa Linda focuses on gorgeous modern architecture for its villas, but this is far from the only style of building that you’ll find on sightseeing tours of Sosua. This town is everything that you would expect from a Caribbean community and is only a few minutes from Casa Linda’s gated neighbourhood. Imagine your home being a mere shuttle bus away from such gorgeous tropical locales!

Let’s look into a few locations that reflect the history of the Dominican Republic, how it influences Sosua, and what makes this place different from anywhere else in the world!

See Taino Architecture at Local Dives

Like most of what we now know as the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic was originally inhabited by the native Taino people. Their unique building style, particularly their Bohios—large buildings with thatched roofs and palm leaves held up by mahogany poles or walls—is a popular way to stylize bars and other vacation stops on Sosua Beach, which should be any tourist’s first stop!

Enjoy the Colonial Style of the Santa Fe Hotel

With the arrival of the Spanish came their architecture, as well as the architecture of their home continent. The Dominican Republic became dotted with buildings of stucco, arched doors and windows, and roofs topped with cylindrical red tiles. These have become a staple of the DR’s urban landscape, and you can find plenty of Spanish inspiration in the design of the Santa Fe hotel in Sosua!

Sights from the Creation of Sosua

Most of what has been said so far can be said about the Dominican Republic as a whole, but what makes Sosua truly unique? In 1940, Sosua was founded as an agreement between the Dominican government and businessmen in the United States to house a large number of Jewish people displaced by WWII. They were able to form a large business—a food factory called Productos Sosua, which is still in business today—and survive.

The town grew around them as Dominicans moved in and their populations mixed. The influence of the refugees takes the form of not only a synagogue and museum in Sosua but the existence of Sosua itself!

A Castle from the Modern Era

Another fascinating addition to Sosua is Castillo Mundo King, a castle built by German artist Rolf Schulz in 1990. It is an eccentric building filled with weird and wonderful art pieces. He lived in it until his death in 2018, and it has since become a tourist attraction for those fascinated by the alien and bizarre.

Embrace the Style of Sosua Real Estate with a Casa Linda Villa

Since Sosua’s modern boom as a tourist town, one more form of architecture has arrived: Real estate built to appeal to expatriate retirees and sunseekers!

Casa Linda’s closed community is a prime example of that: Modern interiors that need minimal maintenance, exteriors designed to keep the home cool and dry, and pools for a refreshing dip. Every home is also fully customizable before purchase to suit the needs and desires of its residents. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Then come live here!

You can see everything that Sosua and the Dominican Republic have to offer while living in a top-notch villa by checking out our floor plans today!
